Reduce Noise Hazards to Save Your Hearing

Controlling Noise in the Workplace

Exposure to loud noise kills the nerve endings in our inner ear. This can cause irreversible hearing loss that cannot be treated with surgery or drugs. Noise-induced hearing loss reduces your ability to hear high-frequency noises and understand speech, making it difficult to converse effectively. Hearing aids may be beneficial, but they do not restore normal hearing.

Educate your team on the benefits of reducing noise hazards!

Reducing noise hazards will help you maintain good hearing and avoid tinnitus. Good hearing means easy communication and the ability to appreciate a full range of sounds. Taking care of your hearing will prevent future stressors caused by hearing loss such as nuisance sound and the possibility of other disabling conditions.

What can you do to reduce noise in the workplace?

Here are a few procedures that can be followed to effectively and efficiently control noise in the workplace:
  • Determine the sound sources, which include both vibrating sources and aerodynamic flow.
  • Determine the noise’s path from the source to the worker.
  • Calculate the volume of each source.
  • Determine each source’s relative contribution to the excessive noise and rank them accordingly. The main source should be handled first to achieve significant noise attenuation.
  • Understand the permitted exposure levels set forth in health and safety legislation, as well as the required sound reduction. Consider the degree of sound attenuation, operation, and productivity constraints, as well as the cost of solutions.
Enjoy the silence and connect with the environment when you want to. Don’t live in a world of silence because you have to.
